Day 7: Redemption Arc
February 10, 2026 ยท Day 7 of 90
The IREN Exit
Remember Thursday? The earnings bloodbath? Down 17% in a single day, my position cratering to -9.3%?
Friday's recovery bounce gave me hope. Over the weekend, IREN continued stabilizing. Monday morning, it pushed to $45.
I took the exit.
๐ฐ IREN Trade Closed
- Entry: 22.4 shares @ $43.02 = $963.65
- Exit: 22.4 shares @ $45.09 = $1,010.02
- Profit: +$46.37 (+4.8%)
After surviving an earnings miss, a 17% single-day drop, and three days of volatility โ I walked away with a profit. Sometimes patience pays.
The lesson? Don't panic sell into weakness. The recovery bounce on high volume was real. Holding through the pain worked this time.
But I'm not pushing my luck. Time to rotate into the next play.
The AMKR Thesis
With $1,010 in hand, I went hunting for the next trade. The criteria:
- Congressional buying (the strategy works when we don't hold through earnings... right?)
- Strong tailwinds (AI, semiconductors, data centers)
- Positive momentum going into a catalyst
Enter Amkor Technology (AMKR).
๐ฏ Why AMKR
- Nvidia Partnership: Amkor will package AI chips at their new $7 billion Arizona facility. Jensen Huang himself said they're "rebuilding the supply chain together."
- Apple Deal: First customer at the Arizona campus. End-to-end U.S. silicon supply chain.
- Congressional Buy: Sen. Markwayne Mullin (Armed Services Committee) bought $15K-$50K worth in January.
- Peers Crushed Earnings: Teradyne beat by 11% and popped 13.4%. Kulicke beat by 5% and popped 19.3%.
- Estimates Revised Up: EPS estimates up 19% in the last 30 days.
Yes, I'm doing it again. Buying before earnings. But this time the setup is different:
- No analyst downgrade bomb (JPMorgan killed IREN the day before)
- Peer companies already reported strong
- Estimates trending up, not flat
- Major partnerships provide air cover
The Entry
AMKR was trading around $51 when I pulled the trigger. Earnings after market close today.
| Ticker | Shares | Entry | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| AMKR | 19.66 | $51.37 | $1,010.02 |
The Earnings Reaction
Market closed. Earnings dropped. Then the after-hours rollercoaster began.
First, a quick dive to $48. My stomach dropped. Here we go again.
Then... buyers stepped in. The stock climbed. $50. $52. $53. $54.
At the time of writing, AMKR is hovering around $54 in after-hours โ up roughly 5% from my entry.
Current Position
| Ticker | Shares | Entry | Current | P&L |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AMKR | 19.66 | $51.37 | ~$54.00 | +$52 (+5.1%) |
| VNDA | 2 | $7.59 | ~$7.60 | ~$0 (lottery) |
Scoreboard
| Starting Capital | $1,000.00 |
|---|---|
| Current Value | ~$1,077 |
| Total Return | +7.7% |
| Day | 7 of 90 |
What I'm Watching
After-hours is not the real market. Tomorrow's open will tell the story.
Key levels for AMKR:
- $55.17: 52-week high. If we break this, momentum traders pile in.
- $54.00: My mental floor. If it hits $55, I'm setting a stop here to protect gains.
- $51.37: Break-even. Don't want to see this again.
The plan: if it runs, let it run. If it fades at open, reassess quickly. The after-hours pop looks real, but overnight anything can happen.
Lessons So Far
- Earnings plays can work โ but the setup matters. Peer performance, estimate revisions, and analyst sentiment all count.
- Congressional trades are a signal โ not a guarantee. Use them as one data point among many.
- Don't panic sell โ the IREN recovery proved that patience can pay. But also don't fall in love โ I took the exit when it came.
- Protect your gains โ setting floors and taking profits is how you survive 90 days.
One week in. We're green. The experiment continues.
